ABOUT

At Critter Colony, we love God, our family and friends, Mother Earth, and all creatures great and small. We are striving to use our land to its fullest potential by planting native plants, as well as vegetable and herb gardens, that provide food for us, our pets, and wildlife. We practice natural management of our land to reduce dependency on polluting machines and chemicals. Our pets, both our working pets (chickens, guinea pigs, and rabbits) and free-loaders (cats, dogs, and hermit crabs - LOL), are named and treated like part of the family. They’re raised with respect and love and are given as much freedom to roam and live together in social colonies as we can manage. We get as much, if not more, love back from them in return.

Kylie
Owner & Operator

Hello, I'm Kylie. Since I was young, I have loved animals, nature, and small business ventures. As an environmental and wildlife and fisheries conservation professional for more than 15 years, I have learned ways to live in harmony with nature. Now I have translated many of those lessons to our experimental hobby homestead on our 1/4 acre piece of this good earth!

Chickens
Production Crew

The work-horses of Critter Colony, our chickens live a good life, free to range the property daily. They not only provide us with healthy, delicious eggs, but also keep the bugs under control, "mow" the grass, weed and till the gardens, and provide hours of entertainment!

The Family
Project Managers

Critter Colony and bringing my sometimes wild and crazy dreams to reality would absolutely not be possible without the love, support, patience, and help of my family both here at the homestead and afar! But my awesome husband, Mike, and our kids are the real driving force of this project. I wanted to show them how to grow healthy food, take care of the land, and raise pets in a respectful manner as God intended.

The rest of the pets
moral support

Many of our pets have harrowing background stories of hardship and rescue before they came to our FUR-ever home to be loved  and happy. Short of certification, they are like emotional support therapy animals. They are part of the family and treated as such. Visit the colony page to learn more about them all
